Where to Source Product Packaging in China

Your product can be excellent — and still lose on the shelf. Because packaging is what sells first. And China is where the world's best packaging is made.

Watch the short — Product Packaging

Standard
VS
Custom Branded

Whether you need boxes, bags, labels, or full custom packaging — China has the suppliers, the technology, and the pricing you won't find anywhere else. But you have to know where to look. Sourcing packaging is fundamentally different from sourcing the product itself.

1. Shenzhen — The Packaging Capital

For premium custom packaging, Shenzhen is your first stop. This city has an entire ecosystem built around product packaging — rigid boxes, magnetic closure boxes, custom inserts, specialty finishes like matte lamination, foil stamping, and embossing.

E-commerce brands and luxury product sellers source here directly. It's the Premium Custom Packaging Hub. High technology mixed with incredible craftsmanship.

2. Wenzhou & Dongguan — Volume & Variety

For high-volume orders — flexible packaging, poly bags, kraft mailers, labels — look at Wenzhou and Dongguan. These cities specialize in packaging at scale. Lower cost per unit, faster turnaround, and suppliers highly experienced with mass export requirements.

City HubBest ForMOQ (Typical)
ShenzhenRigid boxes, luxury finishes, electronics packaging500 - 1000 units
DongguanCorrugated boxes, display stands, toy packaging1000 - 3000 units
WenzhouPlastic bags, woven bags, woven labels, high volume10,000+ units

3. What to Always Specify

When ordering packaging from China, you cannot just send a PDF and hope for the best. Three things must be crystal clear:

  1. Material specs: thickness (GSM), coating (matte/gloss/soft-touch), recyclability.
  2. Color accuracy: always request a physical printed proof before mass production. Screens lie.
  3. Compliance: some markets restrict certain inks or materials (e.g. European REACH compliance).
"Packaging mistakes are incredibly expensive because they ruin the unboxing experience. Always get the physical sample approved first."
